Prevent Dementia With Blueberry Juice

A recent study proved that regular consumption of fruit juice, blueberries can help reduce the decline in memory. This shows that blueberry fruit juice can be an alternative in the treatment or prevention of dementia diseases. Based on the results of study of retirees with symptoms of dementia, it is known that this purple fruit bewarna can sharpen your memory, even when the memory has begun to decline even. Participants who drank juice more than 12 weeks, experienced an increase in memory and recall in a number of tests given.

The team of researchers from the University of Cincinnati did a series of tests on a group of participants aged 70's, who suffered an early stage memory disorders. The participants then divided into two groups. The first group, were asked to drink two cups of blueberry juice every day for two to three months. While the second group were asked to drink a placebo, the beverage contains no grape juice.

During 3 months, participants were given memory tests on a regular basis to determine the brain's ability, especially the ability to remember. They were asked to study and memorize a list of objects that are placed in certain areas. The result, in just 12 weeks, the first group who drank grape juice performed better at remembering the words and tend to rarely get depressed.

"Those who drank grape juice showed significant improvement in the process of remembering," said one researcher, Dr. Robert Krikorian.

Researchers belief content of antioxidants and phytochemicals found in fruit skin and flesh of blueberries is the key. This study adds evidence that both foods and beverages that contain antioxidants can help maintain brain function and slow the decline in memory. In addition, the chemical content in blueberries, called anthocyanin, also known to help improve information flow to the brain.

"These findings are encouraging and reveal that a supplement containing blueberry offers an approach to prevent or reduce neurodegeneration," said Dr. Robert.
